Foreclosure Filings Down in Volusia County

The Daytona Beach News Journal is reporting that the foreclosure filings in Volusia County are down 60% from last year.  According to their article, there were 143 filings in May 2014.   Last May there were 449 new filings.  Read more here.

Spruce Creek Fly In – Port Orange

Does Size Really Matter???

Today the Chicago Tribune reported that the average size of a new home constructed in the U.S in 2013 was 2,598 square feet according to the census bureau.  Even during the market’s healthiest days, the previous high was 2,521 square feet in 2008.

According to the article by Mary Ellen Podmolik, 44% of the homes completed last year had at least 4 bedrooms and 33% had 3 or more bathrooms.  20% included at least a 3 car garage.

10 years ago only 20% of homes had over 3,000 square feet; last year that increased to 29%.

Nationally, the average price of a new single family home has a price tag of $324,500.  In 2012, the average was $292,200.

In Volusia County, including Port Orange, New Smyrna Beach, Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach, there are many new home builders working in several subdivisions as well as building custom homes on land.  New homes can be built from the about $170,000  for a modest   3 bedroom 2 bath home.

In case anyone missed it in the Publix sale flyer this week, they are ofering a FREE Publix Brand Frozen Turkey, up to 16 lbs. with a new or transferred prescription or with the purchase of a flu shot (should be about $30).  Even if you don’t like to cook frozen turkey, wouldn’t it be nice to get one and donate it to a food bank or to a family in need?  This appeared in the 11/1/12 flyer and I’m sure will be repeated in the coming weeks.
